Support your local market

Our markets are the lifeblood of many of our town centres. They provide a friendly and personal service, which is invaluable to many of our residents.

During the coronavirus lockdown many stalls had to close. Those that remained open during this period had lower than normal footfall but still had the same costs. We are proud of the traders who were able to keep Stoke market going throughout lockdown, keeping the market alive in such a difficult situation.

Rent wasn’t collected during this period and we believe that this back rent should now be waived. Those traders returning after lockdown should be offered 6 weeks rent free.

This will help to maintain a valuable public service, get the market back on its feet and help to sustain it for the future.

Show you support your local market by signing the petition started by local Labour councillor Andy Platt. It’s one of the fastest growing petitions Stoke-on-Trent Council has ever had, getting 400 signatures in its first few hours.
